We’ve all been to that one campground that was just the worst campground known to man. The bathrooms stunk, the sites were messy, and the firewood was a little too expensive. Of course, each campground is unique, and all anyone really wants is to park at a spot and enjoy the amazing smoky smells of outdoor living. But sometimes there are a few things you might forget to think about when booking that campsite months in advance- things you’ll loathe yourself for, for not thinking of them before.
If you’re new to the RV community or are thinking about buying a new RV, it’s always a good time to look for tips on reserving an RV spot. Here a few campground amenities you might want to consider before reserving your site.
1. Trees
Ha, ha. Get your laughs out now. You’re probably thinking, “Well, duh, all campgrounds have trees, but thanks for the tip.” No, really. Shade is on your side, my camping-loving friend. If you’re looking for the perfect campground to park your RV, you may want to consider the shade, and how much is available. Sometimes a very small number of trees is great––a little sun never hurt anyone, and of course, it does give you a nice tan––but on a 90-degree weather day, when you’re not sure you want to use the air conditioning in your RV when you came here to enjoy the outdoors, shade can be your best friend.
2. Wifi
It used to be that people went RVing to get away from the craziness of life, and that is definitely still true today, but there are families that need wifi for necessary purposes. There may be someone who needs to work and is able to do that remotely from a laptop, or kids who need the internet to be able to finish up some homework they forgot to do throughout the week. There’s really no telling what the wifi will be needed for, but in a lot of cases, it is needed for something. It may not seem like a big deal now, but it will be when you get settled into your campsite and realize you can’t access your email.
3. Water
This ones for those muggy summer days when all you want to do is jump in the pool. There are many campgrounds that already come with some sort of pool, lake, or a body of water, but some still do not, but it’s always a good idea to check before making a reservation for the middle of July or the beginning of August. A refreshing dip in the pool can make a bad day turn into fantastic fun, especially for young kids who need something to keep their mind off the heat!
Better Safe than Sorry
Obviously, not all campgrounds can accommodate every little thing, but these three things will definitely make your adventures more fun for you and for the whole family. Whether you’re there with relatives or just hanging with friends, everyone will enjoy the shade and water on a hot day, and wifi if there’s ever an emergency at work.
