Camping locations throughout the United States are as different from one another as they are plentiful. Whether you’re looking for a location more in the “roughing it” category or you would rather stay at one that offers a full list of amenities, there are campgrounds that everyone can enjoy. While traveling in an RV without much of a plan can be exciting, it can also lead to unfortunate adventures if you end up staying at the wrong campground. If you’re traveling south from Ohio, chances are good that you’ll end up traveling through the beautiful state of West Virginia.
West Virginia is the perfect place to stop on your road trip. There’s beautiful scenery and a countless number of outdoor adventures, such as whitewater rafting, skiing, hiking, and fishing to take part in during your stay. There are also wonderful campgrounds in almost every county throughout the state. Here’s a list of a few amazing campgrounds you won’t want to miss.
1. Stonewall Resort
The Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV is host to the Briar Point Campground. The campground sites are waterfront on the shore of the beautiful Stonewall Jackson Lake. They have a total of 40 full hook-up sites available which include electric, water, and sewage. They also have complimentary high-speed internet access for guests. As an added bonus, registered guests at the campground can purchase a Resort Activity Pass for access to the resort’s indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, lake cruises, and other amenities.
2. Canaan Valley Resort
Located in Davis, West Virginia, Canaan Valley has the claim as being the “highest mountain valley east of the Rocky Mountains”. Due to its location, the resort offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the state with its combination of 47 slopes and trails. During the warmer months, the resort features an array of attractions such as miniature golf, 18 miles of marked trails, and sports fields. Among these attractions is the resort’s campground with 34 paved full hookup sites. The campground also features shower and laundry facilities for guests.
3. Camp Creek State Park
Conveniently located, just two miles off of I-77, Camp Creek State Park includes four campgrounds. While three of these campgrounds are for tent camping only, Mash Fork Campground within the park can accommodate RV campers. The campground has 26 trailer sites in total. They have sites with only electric, electric and water, or full hookups available. The Mash Fork Campground also features a heated bathhouse, laundry facility, and WiFi service. While staying at this somewhat secluded park, you can enjoy the playgrounds, sports courts, or take a hike on the 32 miles of trails.
